In 2020 it was 25 years ago that the Muslim enclave of Srebrenica fell in Bosnia. The Dutch Dutchbat could not prevent at least 8,400 Muslim boys and men from being killed by Bosnian Serb troops. It was the first genocide in Europe since World War II.
In seven NOS Srebrenica Journaals, decisive events surrounding the fall of Srebrenica are outlined against the background of the larger story: the break-up of Yugoslavia and the question of how nationalism could spread in this way.
My job was to create a virtual set and visualize the maps that the presenters could interact with. Besides that, I (re)designed an intro that was a modern version of the NOS news intro from the 90s. I recreated the whole intro from scratch, since none of the original files were available and gave it an updated and slightly more military look. Since the footage from these times had a really bad VHS quality, I had to create some overlay graphics that would give the feeling of enhancing the detail of the imagery.
